Posted February 05, 2019 16:19:30China has signed a $7.8 billion tourism package with Qatar, with the announcement of a major new partnership with the Gulf state.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said the two countries will cooperate to increase tourism in the two nations.

The two countries have been in negotiations for the past few months, with Xi saying in April that China is willing to support Qatar’s bid for a “world-class” 2022 World Cup and the 2022 Asian Games.

Qatar has been in a long-running dispute with the country of its birth, which is controlled by the Al-Udeid family, and which is home to a majority Shia Muslim minority.
